Foster Cakes, Inc.

Founded by husband and wife team Aaron and Rocky Bouma, Foster Cakes, Inc. was born out of a desire to serve our community.

When we got married in 2013, we both felt the call to serve as foster parents. We prayed about it, and took several classes and were about to start our home study when I (Rocky) was diagnosed with unexplained infertility in 2015. We were facing what we didn't know would be a 7 year infertility journey. Everything else was placed on the back burner.

In 2022, I launched a home-based bakery, and in 2023, we welcomed our twins! The desire to serve in some capacity was still bubbling under the surface. For years, we had prayed about potentially fostering, and in November of 2024, God plainly answered. I told Aaron, "What if I could bake birthday cakes for children in foster care?" 

​

He encouraged me to reach out to local agencies and see if there was a need for this type of service. One agency responded. A little less than a month later, I baked the very first Foster Cake. In 2025, we partnered with Christian Heritage and served 48 families through birthday cakes and cookies for adoption and guardianship celebrations.

The feedback from foster parents has been heartfelt and appreciative. Foster care is not a trivial matter in a child's life. It's traumatic, and often messy. To a child facing uncertainty and upheaval, a birthday cake made to celebrate them, their existence, their life, can be an anchor to feeling just a little bit more secure.

Foster Cakes aims to take root in our home community, and expand in the coming years. We believe with enough faith and hard work, we can build a community of bakers ready to rally around the state and serve all of Nebraska.
